Bar

The city of Bar is located in the southeastern part of Montenegro, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The city is separated from Lake Skadar by a forested highland. The unique combination of pure air of pine forests and salty sea has become a healing factor from many diseases, especially respiratory problems. But not only the healing air attracts thousands of tourists. The climate, easy transport accessibility and various attractions are also of great importance.

Almost the entire coast of the city of Bar and its suburbs is a beach, except for the port area. Almost all beaches are pebbles, small and large, but you can also find sand (Golden and Red beaches). Bar is a green city, there are especially many olive trees. One of the olive trees is even protected by the state, because it is more than two thousand years old.

The city has many historical sites, concentrated mainly in the Old Bar. This area is located 4 km from the sea, in the foothills. It was inhabited many centuries ago. The medieval Bar changed its owners many times - at different times it was ruled by the Slavs, the Byzantines, the Serbs, the Venetians, the Ottomans and the Montenegrins. Each era was reflected in the buildings, roads and houses. The old town was kept in a rather good condition for a long time, but earthquakes damaged many houses and ancient buildings, so residents began to settle closer to the sea. After an earthquake in 1979 they were forced to finally move out of the ruined foothills. Today, the Old Bar is a non-residential historic district.
