Lake Capetanovo

City

Lake Capetanovo is hidden among the inaccessible Montenegrin mountains at 1,678 metres above the sea level. It is impenetrable and thus beautiful. The legend says, once there was a katun (shepherd's summer camp) by the lake, it belonged to a chief of the town of Niksic, called Captain Musovic. There was a spring in the mountains above the katun, but water did not always flow from it. At night it was opened by vilas (a vila is a small deity similar to a fairy). One day one of the vilas forgot to close the spring after bathing, and it flooded the whole katun. This is how Lake Capetano came into being.
