The route got such a name due to the fact that on your way you will see the main "water" attractions of Montenegro: Niagara waterfall, Skadar Lake (the largest and most picturesque lake in Montenegro), the Crnojevica River, Salt Lake and, of course, you will have a beautiful view of the Adriatic. One of the important events on the rout there will be a stop at the family winery Mrkan, whose wine was always chosen by famous Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. And, of course, you’re going to have an obligatory tasting of the Mrkan winery's products.

The regions we are going to pass through will delight and inspire us, and the ultimate prize - the poetry of travelling through exotic lands and the happiness of seeing some of the most beautiful places in Montenegro - will be incomparably greater than the amount of energy spent and all the sweat equity will worth it.

The route is based on the technical features of our bikes, which means that a fully charged battery is guaranteed to get you to your next overnight stop, regardless of the weight of the rider. Please note that at the end of the ride, it is essential to recharge the battery of the bike for the following day's ride. In some cases, slight route changes are possible due to the availability of hotels along the route.

Day by Day

1. First day

Njegusi-Rvasi (42km, climb 186m)

We really hope you've had a good rest after your trip to Montenegro and that you've had time to enjoy a little bit of this wonderful country on your way from the airport. So, the first day will be a warm-up for the challenging journey: there will be no difficult climbs. On the way you will see the ancient capital of Montenegro Cetinje, at Rijeka Crnojevica. You will find a beautiful oasis further along the route, in the harsh mountains, it is a must stop to enjoy a traditional Montenegrin coffee. The final point of the day is a family winery Mrkan, where you can taste the wonderful Montenegrin wine, see how the grapes grow and, if you are lucky, take part in wine making.

2. Second day

Rvasi-Virpazar (31km)

This section of the route won't be particularly difficult, but it will be incredibly beautiful, because the most picturesque and largest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar, is ahead of you. As long as you travel, you will find incredible views and unrivalled Montenegrin nature. Your next overnight stop is an ancient town of Virpazar, which history dates back to 1242.

A cozy hotel with a restaurant and antiques museum awaits you in Virpazar. At the request of guests, the hotel staff will organize a boat trip on the lake and suggest a place where you can taste the most delicious fish on the lake - we highly recommend you don't miss this unforgettable opportunity.

3. Third day

Virpazar-Podgorica (44km)

We go to the capital city of Montenegro, Podgorica. Our route lies along the Skadar Lake National Park, which is home to a huge variety of birds and fish. If you follow our route exactly, you will surely see incredibly beautiful white herons, many different ducks, coots and, of course, black cormorants. Not far from Podgorica you will be passing the famous Niagara waterfall. However, it works only in winter time, in summer they turn it off :-) You will also see the vast vineyards of Plantage, the largest wine producer in Montenegro.

4. Fourth day

Podgorica-Niksic (58km)

We hope that the previous days of your journey have sufficiently prepared you for the most challenging part of the route: you will have to ride along the picturesque floodplain of the Zeta River for almost 60 kilometres and overcome an ascent of 700 metres. To compensate for your efforts, a sauna will be waiting for you at a hotel in the centre of Niksic, where all the road fatigue will disappear in a very short time.

About halfway you will see the world famous Orthodox monastery of Ostrog, famous for legends about it and its miracles, situated high up in the mountains to the right of the road.

5. Fifth day

Niksic-Grahovo (57km)

Today we’re having another challenging section of this route to tackle. Before heading into the wild mountains, the road will take you along a man-made freshwater lake with a funny name Salt Lake. Further real Montenegrin mountains and real idyll are waiting for you: just you and only mountains. You will stay overnight in a historical place Grahovo. The Montenegrin history remembers the battle between the Montenegrins and the Turks in 1858 which brought victory to Montenegro. The hotel staff will be happy to organise an excursion in off-road vehicles to the sites of the battle and other places of interest in the region.

6. Sixth day

Grahovo-Herceg Novi (54km)

Off we go to Herceg Novi. It's 54 kilometres long and the fact that it is going down the mountain would be a pleasant bonus. The Adriatic Sea with its picturesque scenery gets closer and closer on the kilometres of the road, so charge your camera and mobile batteries properly so you don't miss a single moment to take pictures!
